CLEMSON, S.C.-On Sunday, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Clemson Tigers wrapped their weekend series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers won the game 7-6 to give them the series victory against Wake Forest, taking two games out of three against the Demon Deacons.
Here are some takeaways from Sunday’s game.
Kade Lewis Continues his Great 2025 Season for Wake Forest
Heading into this weekend, Kade Lewis was the second-best hitter in the ACC based on batting average.
He continued his incredible 2025 season with a great game on Sunday that capped off a great weekend in Clemson overall.
Throughout the whole weekend, he had six hits, two home runs, and finished with six RBI. The designated hitter had two hits and two RBI on Sunday.
He was the big gear in the Demon Deacons’ offense that kept it turning.
Lewis was a star in 2024 with Butler as he was named the Big East Freshman of the Year. The transition to Wake Forest and ACC baseball has been seamless for him as he showed this weekend why he is one of the best players in the conference.
Cam Cannarella Wakes Up After Struggling Throughout the Weekend
The Clemson center fielder could not get any offense going against Wake Forest on Friday and Saturday. He was hitless in both of those games.
However, after his first hit on Sunday, his fourth at-bat proved to be huge for Clemson. He squeaked a ball through the infield resulting in a run.
Then, while advancing to second on an error during the same play, another run came in to score. This made it a 6-5 game as he closed the gap on Wake Forest’s lead.
He then ran home off a base knock from his teammate Luke Gaffney that tied up the game, 6-6.
A rough start to the weekend turned into a phenomenal Sunday for Clemson’s star player. Without him, the Tigers would not have made the comeback.
Lucas Mahlstedt Pitches Great in the Final Innings of the Game
High-leverage reliever Lucas Mahlstedt came in relief after pitching in Friday’s game. He went three innings, struck out three hitters, gave up just two hits, and walked only one hitter.
He threw 30 strikes out of the 50 total pitches he threw. On top of all of this, his outing earned him the win. It was his first win of the 2025 college baseball season.
This season, Mahlstedt has now pitched 20 and 2/3 innings and has struck out 29 batters.
