Ramon Santiago will replace Fernando Tatis Sr. as manager of the Algodoneros de Union Laguna of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol when the Guindas resume play after the league’s all-star break.
The team announced the move on Saturday after the club struggled through the first half of the season, limping into the pause with a 26-34 record in seventh place in the Zona Norte under Fernando Tatis Sr.

Santiago takes over a team that has the fifth-highest ERA in the 20-team league with a 5.73 mark in 529 1/3 innings and has been outscored by 42 runs through the first 60 games of the 93-game regular season. Despite those struggles, the Algodoneros are just two games behind the Rieleros de Aguascalientes, who hold the sixth and final playoff spot in the Zona Norte with a 27-31 record.
The native of Las Matas de Farfan, Dominican Republic, has previous experience managing in the LMB, as he led the Leones de Yucatan in 2025, but was fired in late May. He returned to the Dominican Republic, where he was named manager of the Leones del Escogido of LIDOM, the country’s professional winter league, after the defending champions went 13-18 to start the season. He led the Leones to their second consecutive title after taking over, getting the team into the final round robin playoff spot and then going 12-6 in the 18-game round robin.
Santiago’s Leones then beat the Toros del Este in five games to claim the LIDOM championship and return to the Caribbean Series for the second year in a row.
The Algodoneros return from the all-star break with a three-game series against Aguascalientes at home before traveling for a three-game series at Saltillo next weekend.
