Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll became the franchise’s all-time leader in triples on Friday night at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Carroll now has 53 career triples, surpassing former Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew on the organization’s leaderboard.
The left-handed hitter set the record against Rays’ right-hander Nick Martinez in the first inning, lifting a fly ball to the top of the right field wall. It was Carroll’s 10th triple of 2026, and it took him just 566 games to accomplish the feat.
“I can say that with 100% certainty, there’s just so much excitement with everything that he does,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told MLB.com’s Manny Randhawa about Carroll’s speed and agility last month. “You throw in the bat, and then the wheels, and the speed with which Corbin is coming around the bases — it’s amazing for everybody to watch. I’m a baseball fan at that point.”
Through 78 games, the 25-year-old is hitting .282/.366/.543 with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs, and a .909 OPS. In 2025, he finished sixth in MVP voting in the National League.
Carroll’s speed, which includes nine stolen bases in 10 attempts, could help him receive MVP consideration for this season. Nine outs above average in the outfield may increase his case for the first Gold Glove award of his career.
Carroll has Irish-American and Taiwanese heritage. His mother, Pey-Lin, was born in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States as a child.
Before the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Carroll denied an invitation from Chinese Taipei, accepting an offer from Mark DeRosa’s U.S. squad instead.
Unfortunately, Carroll never had the opportunity to suit up for the United States. Before the tournament, he broke the hamate bone in his right hand during live batting practice.
The broken bone forced him to sit out for about one month, but he managed to play seven games during spring training.
Triples are rare in today’s baseball landscape. Carroll makes it look easier than ever, and it’s one of the reasons he’s one of the more electrifying players in the sport.
