Florida State star Myles Bailey was selected by the Chicago Cubs with the 75th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. On Saturday, July 18, he signed a massive overslot deal with the Cubs.
Bailey signed with Chicago for $1.9 million, according to MLB Pipeline senior writer Jim Callis. This is well over the pick value at 75th overall. MLB Pipeline has the pick value at $1.12 million.
Why was Bailey signed to an overslot deal?
The Cubs signed the Florida State prospect to an overslot deal due to his sheer power. Bailey may be the best power hitter in the 2026 MLB Draft class. He fell back from where he was supposed to be selected because of other factors.
At Florida State, he had 32 career home runs in 282 career at-bats. After 19 home runs in his freshman season, Bailey was well on pace to break that number in his sophomore season. He had 13 long balls in 26 games.
However, a bad ankle injury sidelined him for the rest of the 2026 college baseball season. It would be the end of the Tallahassee native’s career with the Seminoles.
The broken ankle is another reason that Bailey possibly fell back in the 2026 MLB Draft. He had surgery on his ankle and seemed to be going through rehab for it. However, a broken ankle is a concern for some MLB teams when drafting prospects.
Despite falling back, Bailey was able to make well above his pick value due to his power hitting that can make him a big-time player at the professional level.
Career numbers at Florida State
Along with 32 career home runs, Bailey had a .337 career batting average with a career on-base percentage of .488.
The left-handed slugger also had 16 doubles and 89 RBIs. He nearly reached 100 career hits before his injury, but he leaves Florida State with 95 total hits instead.
Bailey was a freshman All-American in 2025 and was a midseason first-team All-American in 2026 before his injury. He received All-American nominations in 2025 and 2026 from D1 Baseball, Baseball America, and Perfect Game.
