Freshman left-handed pitcher Cord Rager is back in the Oklahoma Sooners’ starting rotation. According to Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson, Rager will start on Sunday against the Missouri Tigers on Sunday, April 19.
Rager has been sidelined for the Sooners with a tender latissimus muscle. He has missed the last two weekend series where Oklahoma played against Alabama and Vanderbilt.
Rager’s last start for Oklahoma came on March 28 against the Texas Longhorns in Austin. In that appearance, Rager had three strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Rager and his freshman season with the Sooners
This season, Rager has a 4.80 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 30 innings of work. He has two wins this season against the TCU Horned Frogs and Coppin State Eagles.
His season-high for strikeouts came during the win over TCU on February 15. In his first career start for Oklahoma, Rager had eight strikeouts in five innings of work. Over that same stretch, he allowed just two hits and one earned run.
He played a big role in the Sooners winning the 2026 Shriners Children’s College Showdown title.
Rager’s upcoming start against Missouri in Norman will be his fourth-career start against a Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent.
Up next for Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off a 7-3 loss against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. They have a 24-12 overall record this season and are 7-8 in SEC play.
Their next game is against the Missouri Tigers at Kimrey Family Stadium in Norman on Friday, April 17. The first pitch for that game is 5 p.m. ET.
