OMAHA, Neb. – On Saturday, June 13, the Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide 9-0 in the College World Series. Deiten Lachance had a big game in the win over the Crimson Tide with two hits and a home run. However, the big day had a tough start that the Quebec native had to overcome.
Lachance goes from a rolled ankle to smashing home runs
At the beginning of the game, Lachance rolled over his own ankle hard while rounding second base. The Oklahoma catcher did remain in the game and talked about his injury postgame.
“My ankle was fine,” Lachance said. “I’m 100%. I was fine to keep playing, and there is no problem.”
Once Lachance kept playing, he went on to make a huge play. In the top of the sixth inning, Lachance hit a two-run home run on a gimpy ankle. The ball went 110 miles per hour over the left field bullpen and increased Oklahoma’s lead to 5-0.
This play shows the kind of toughness Lachance possesses. It has led to a huge NCAA Tournament for the Sooners’ catcher. Lachance has 12 hits, four home runs, and 13 RBIs during the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

Lachance finished the game with two RBIs. He led the Sooners in RBIs along with Trey Gambill and Dasan Harris, who both had two RBIs apiece.
Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson talked about Lachance’s toughness he showcased against Alabama.
“He is a baseball player,” Johnson said. “Sometimes you do not feel good, sometimes it is raining, sometimes it is hot. However, he [Lachance] loves to play no matter the adversity. He is always laughing and smiling, and is an energy-giver.”
Up next for Oklahoma
