Major League Baseball continues its reach into Europe for talent with development-focused events this week. In celebration of the 2024 London Series, the MLB is partnering with the annual European Development Tournament in hopes of growing baseball and softball in the United Kingdom and beyond.
Events began Tuesday, June 4th, and run through Friday, June 7th. The tournament features 90 best amateur baseball players from 13 European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
On June 4, MLB scouts from 25 teams watched players go through showcase workouts. From June 5-7, games will be played.
Also, on Wednesday and Thursday, primary school children in London can participate in the “First Pitch Festival.” MLB First Pitch is a skill-based program that hopes to introduce baseball to a new generation of players. In its fourth year, MLB First Pitch has grown to 14,000 UK primary school children by 2023.
