The Acereros de Monclova of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol have signed infielder and designated hitter Ryan Hernandez, who had been playing with the Lake Country Dockhounds of the American Association.
With Lake Country, Hernandez had a batting line of .374/.470/.784, 14 homers and 44 RBIs, and led the league in batting average, homers, and RBIs. Hernandez played college baseball at the University of Houston and played 17 games with Los Angeles Angels’ affiliate Tri-City in the Northwest League in 2023 before going to the American Association.
In 243 career American Association games over parts of four seasons, Hernandez has 216 RBIs and 68 homers. He appeared in nine games in the LMB last year with the Dorados de Chihuahua, batting .192/.241/.269 over 29 at-bats with two doubles and five RBIs.
Monclova has struggled of late, winning just three of its last 10 games with a record of 31-29 as the LMB begins its All-Star Break on Friday. Hernandez, who plays first base and serves as a designated hitter, will put pressure on Acereros’ veteran DH Balbino Fuenmayor, who has six homers and 30 RBIs to go along with a .796 OPS this season. At first base, Monclova has Ramon Hernandez, who has driven in 41 runs this season, good for second on the team, and 1.096 OPS in 50 games.
