With the World Baseball Classic Qualifiers rapidly approaching at the end of February and early March, teams and players are beginning to prepare their rosters for the upcoming action. According to Francys Romero, Cuban-born outfielder Felix Stevens is set to represent Spain.
Stevens, 25, was born in La Habana, Cuba, and he is a member of the Chicago Cubs organization. His mother was born in Spain, so he is eligible to represent Spain. He made his organizational debut with the Cubs in 2019, playing 51 games in the Dominican Summer League. He hit .280, adding six home runs and 31 RBIs.
He would continue climbing through the minor league systems from 2021-23, where in 2024, he would reach the Double-A level for the first time in his career. He would split half his season between High-A and Double-A, playing in more games at the Double-A level. Between both levels, Stevens hit .237, 20 home runs, 73 RBIs, and stole four bases. Stevens also joined the Cañeros de Los Mochis this winter, playing in 20 games, hitting .194 with two home runs and 13 RBIs.
Spain’s journey for the World Baseball Classic will begin on February 21 and go until February 25. The games will be played in Taipei, Taiwan, at the Taipei Dome. They are tasked with facing Chinese Taipei, Nicaragua, and South Africa. The first-place team and the winner of Game 7 will advance to the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
