Suárez, the veteran slugger from Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, is having one of the best power seasons of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks and enters late July with 36 home runs and a .924 OPS. In this episode of World Baseball Talk, the crew debates whether Arizona should move him at the deadline — and if so, which teams are the best fit.
The New York Yankees are the most rumored destination, but names like the Brewers, Cubs, Reds, Red Sox, Mets, and even Suarez’s former team, the Mariners, come up in the discussion. There’s also talk of whether the Yankees would really part with top prospects for a short-term rental without locking Suarez in long-term, especially after the Juan Soto experience.
The crew weighs whether Arizona should trade Suarez now or hold for a Wild Card push. His bat could shift the playoff picture if he’s moved.
A two-time All-Star and one of the top power hitters in MLB, Suarez also represented Venezuela at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, batting .500 with a home run and seven RBI in four games.
