You never know what you’re going to get with the Korea Baseball Organization.
What makes the top professional baseball league in South Korea so unpredictable is the roster turnover each team sees throughout the course of the season.
Injuries and the Asian Quota System allow and or force teams to make quick decisions, especially pitching staffs. We’ve seen more of that in recent days, and a smattering of exciting moments from the KBO.
Rodriguez Goes Deep in First KBO At-Bat – The Kia Tigers signed corner infielder Aderlin Rodriguez just a few days ago as an injury replacement for Harold Castro.
Rodriguez, playing under a six-week contract, launched a three-run home run to center field in his first KBO at-bat against Hanwha Eagles left-hander Kang Kun-woo on Tuesday. It was just one season ago that Rodriguez belted 35 homers in 89 games with the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol’s Bravos de Leon and Toros de Tijuana.
How did he follow Tuesday’s performance? By smacking two solo roundtrippers in the second game of his career with the Tigers on Wednesday. Two games, three homers, and five RBIs for the 34-year-old.
Landers Sign Japanese Pitcher to Replace Mitch White – The SSG Landers learned last week that former Major League swingman Mitch White had suffered a rotator cuff injury and will miss at least six weeks.
White’s injury replacement, Japanese left-hander Ginjiro Hiramoto, 26, had been pitching for the Gunma Diamond Pegasus in a semi-professional baseball league known as the Baseball Challenge League in Japan.
Yoo Jee-ho of Yonhap News Agency reported that the Landers are impressed by Hiramoto’s fastball, which tops out at approximately 95 mph. White re-signed with the Landers during the offseason and went 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 30 ⅔ innings before the rotator cuff injury.
2025 Home Run Leader Smashes Walk-Off Shot for Lions – Samsung Lions first baseman Lewin Diaz is no stranger to moonshots. He set the single-season record for the most home runs by a foreign player in 2025 with 50.
Down 6-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday, Diaz took an 0-2 slider from Jack Cushing over the right field wall for a walk-off three-run homer against Hanwha. It was his second hit of the day and fifth dinger of the year.
What made Diaz’s walk-off that much more exciting was the fact that the Eagles plated two runs in the eighth to retake the lead. It’s a tough blow for Cushing, who spent the past six years in the Athletics’ farm system but never got the call to the Majors.
