With one swing, Julian Ornelas put the Algodoneros de Guasave two wins away from the 2023 Caribbean Series.

Ornelas took a 1-1 fastball that Caneros de Los Mochis reliever Daniel Duarte sent over the middle of the plate and drove it over the right field wall in the bottom of the eighth, giving Algodoneros a 2-1 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. Los Mochis has a 3-2 lead in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico championship series.

Brandon Koch came on to get the save for Algodoneros, surrendering a two-out single to Roberto Valenzuela before getting Yasmani Tomas to fly out to center to end the game.

Los Mochis got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth, when Rodolfo Amador singled up the middle, scoring Valenzuela.

Guasave evened the game when Jesse Castillo homered to right in the home half of the sixth.

Reliever Rafael Cordova went two innings, allowing one hit and one walk, earning the win for the Algodoneros. Starter Nico Tellache went six innings, allowing one run on nine hits, striking out four and walking two.
