Three hits and three runs from center fielder Bryan Torres and a bullpen that combined to allow one run in 7.1 innings paced the Gigantes de Carolina to a 4-2 win in game five of the Liga Beisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente championship series Sunday night.

Carolina leads the series three games to two.

To the delight of the home fans at Estadio Roberto Clemente, Carolina got on the board in the bottom of the first when Anderson Feliz doubled to right, scoring Bryan Torres.

The Indios evened the score half an inning later. With Henry Ramos on third and Roberto Perez on first, Richie Palacios fought off an inside fastball from Jonathan Bermudez for a single up the middle, scoring Ramos and chasing Bermudez from the game.

In the top of the third, Danny Ortiz doubled to right field, scoring Emmanuel Rivera for a 2-1 Mayaguez lead.

The Gigantes answered back in the bottom half when Josh Palacios’ RBI single scored Torres to even the game at two apiece, the only run they were able to muster after Bermudez was replaced by Jose Fuentes, who went 4.1 innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits.

Carolina regained the lead in the home half of the fifth when Jan Hernandez’ double to left scored Delvin Perez all the way from first, making the score 3-2. They added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Ruben Castro grounded into a fielder’s choice at short, allowing Torres to score for the third time.

Miguel Romero and Jose Espada came in and shut down Mayaguez in the eighth and ninth.

The series continues with game six on Tuesday, January 24 at 6:10 p.m. ET at Mayaguez.
