The No. 30 Arizona Diamondbacks prospect according to MLBpipeline.com, corner infielder Tristin English, will play for the Tigres del Licey for the 2023-24 Liga de Béisbol Profesional de la República Dominicana regular season, the organization announced on Monday.
English, 26, was born in Stockbridge, Georgia, and was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the third round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft out of Georgia Tech University after his junior season and signed on June 22, 2019 for $500,000.
This past season, English split time between Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno, playing in 102 games and batting .300 with 449 plate appearances, recording 116 hits, 27 doubles, 23 home runs, 93 RBI, 52 walks, and 103 strikeouts with a .938 OPS.
In 2022, English spent time at both High-A Hillsboro and Double-A Amarillo, suiting up in 104 games with 435 plate appearances, batting .269 with 103 hits, 16 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 49 RBI, 38 walks, and 86 strikeouts with a .762 OPS.
During his second professional season in 2021 with High-A Hillsboro, English played in 83 games, batting .242 with 348 plate appearances annd 73 hits, 15 doubles, 10 home runs, 48 RBI, seven stolen bases, 28 walks, and 87 strikeouts with a .713 OPS.
In his first professional season in 2019, English played in 50 games with 216 plate appearances, batting .290 with 56 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 30 RBI, 13 walks, and 24 strikeouts.
The 2023-24 LIDOM regular season will start on October 19, with three games slated for opening day. The Santo Domingo series between the Leones del Escogido and the Tigres del Licey will be at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal at 7:15 p.m. EDT. The Gigantes del Cibao will travel to Santiago to play the Aguilas Cibaenas at 7:30 p.m. EDT at Estadio Cibao. The Toros del Este will play the Estrellas Orientales a 7:30 p.m. EDT at Estadio Tetelo Vargas.
All LIDOM regular season games will be streamed on MLB.tv until the final out of the best-of-seven championship series in January, shortly before the 2024 Caribbean Series in Miami at loanDepot Park from February 1-9.
