Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Piratas Take 15-14 Win From Diablos Rojos; Acereros Stomp Charros 21-3

Piratas de Campeche (1-2) 15, Diablos Rojos del Mexico (2-1) 14 (10 Innings) – Terrin Vavra’s RBI single in the top of the 10th scored Andrew Young with the go-ahead run as the Piratas took a wild rubber game in Mexico City. Andrew Stevenson hit a three-run homer in the sixth and a two-run homer in the ninth that put the Piratas up 14-12. Former Houston Astro Jon Singleton homered in the first and hit a grand slam in the second and scored twice for the Diablos.

Guerreros de Oaxaca (2-0) 11, Pericos de Puebla (0-2) 6 – Alexi Amarista went 3-for-5, scored twice, homered, and drove in three runs as the Guerreros won the second game of the series. Teammate Juan Santana also went 3-for-5 and had three RBIs. Cristhian Adames and Lorenzo Cedrola each homered for Puebla

Rieleros de Aguascalientes(1-1) 11, Tecolotes de Los Dos Laredos (1-1) 10 – Despite a seven-run rally in the top of the ninth featuring a Zoilo Almonte grand slam that turned a 9-3 deficit into a one-run lead, the Tecos fell in the bottom of the ninth when the Rieleros got back-to-back solo homers from Calvin Estrada and Leonel Valera.

Toros de Tijuana (2-0) 10, Saraperos de Saltillo (0-2) 4 – Starter David Reyes allowed two hits and a walk, striking out three over five scoreless innings as the Toros cruised to their second win of the year. Rafael Ortega hit a solo homer in the fourth, Tomas Telis hit a two-run homer in the eighth, and Roberto Ramos capped the win with a solo homer in the ninth for Tijuana. Drew Stankiewicz went 2-for-2 with three RBIs for Saltillo.

Acereros de Monclova (1-1) 21, Charros de Jalisco (1-1) 3 – Somehow, Monclova only hit two homers as they romped over Jalisco, with Balbino Fuenmayor hitting a fourth-inning grand slam that put the game well out of reach and Ramon Hernandez hitting a solo shot in the fifth. Jalisco starter Luis Ivan Rodriguez allowed nine runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out two.

Conspiradores de Queretaro (1-1) 9, El Aguila de Veracruz (1-1) 1 – Junior Guerra allowed one run on five hits and two walks, striking out three over 5 1/3 innings as the Queretaro nine conspired to get their first win of the year. Abraham Almonte and Henry Urrutia each had three hits for Queretaro, and Dwight Smith Jr. went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer.

Sultanes de Monterrey (2-0) 10, Algodoneros de Union Laguna (0-2) 5 – Ricardo Genovez went 4-for-5, hit three doubles, scored twice, and had four RBIs as the Sultanes took the series from Union Laguna. Dean Nevarez hit a solo homer for the Algodoneros and Mason Martin clubbed a two-run shot.

Bravos de Leon (2-0) 3, Leones de Yucatan (0-2) 2 – Felipe Gonzalez threw six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven, and Robert Gsellman earned his first save of the year as the Bravos improved to 2-0. Carlos Martinez drove in the game-winner with a sac fly in the ninth, scoring Jimmy Kerrigan.

Tigres de Quintana Roo (2-0) 6, Olmecas de Tabasco (0-2) 5 – The Tigres capitalized on a wild pitch in the eighth to take a 6-4 lead, with Roberto Gonzalez and Miles Simington scooting home while Tabasco catcher Alan Espinoza crawled after the ball. Domingo Leyba and Agustin Ruiz homered for Tabasco.

Dorados de Chihuahua (1-1) 6, Caliente de Durango (1-1) 3 – Mark Contreras hit a three-run double in the seventh as the Dorados scored four in the frame and took the lead for good. The Chihuahua bullpen allowed one run on four hits and two walks over five innings and struck out seven. David Hensley hit a two-run homer for Durango.
