Liga Mexicana de Beisbol: Robinson Cano’s Grand Slam Powers Diablos’ Win; Durango Scores 20 to Beat Chihuahua

Diablos Rojos del Mexico (14-12) 10, Tigres de Quintana Roo (11-15) 7 – Robinson Cano had a career night, going 2-for-5, scoring twice, driving in a pair of runs with a double in the third inning and four more with a grand slam in the sixth as the Diablos beat their longtime rival. Carlos Perez had a pair of RBI singles for the Diablos, and starter Ricardo Pinto allowed four runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings and struck out six. Troy Viola hit his sixth homer of the year, a solo shot in the fourth, for the Tigres.

Algodoneros de Union Laguna (11-15) 4, Sultanes de Monterrey (17-9) (11 Innings) – Ricardo Sanchez allowed one run on five hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out six for Union Laguna, Emmanuel Rivera went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Edgar Robles tripled in the top of the 11th to bring two runs home as the Algodoneros edged Monterrey. Monterrey starter Nolan Kingham allowed a run on four hits in five innings.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (14-12) 7, Dorados de Chihuahua (8-17) 5 (10 Innings) – Harold Ramirez’ third homer of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the 10th, sent the Dos Laredos fans home happy as they edged Chihuahua at Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas. Yadiel Hernandez hit a two-run homer for the Tecos, and starter Daniel Mengden went 7 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, striking out nine. Alejandro Mejia hit a solo homer for the Dorados.

El Aguila de Veracruz (12-13) 5, Pericos de Puebla (16-10) 3 – Carlos Franco’s two-run homer in the eighth inning got El Aguila past Puebla Saturday night, and starter Braulio Torres-Perez threw six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks, striking out five Pericos. Puebla’s Moises Gomez hit a solo homer in the second, his 11th of the year, and Luis Castro added a solo homer in the third for the Pericos.

Bravos de Leon (15-11) 11, Conspiradores de Queretaro (12-14) – Jimmy Kerrigan went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, and Esteban Quiroz, Gabriel Cancel, and Jermaine Palacios each had three hits as the Bravos made short work of Queretaro. Palacios hit a two-run triple in the sixth, and Cancel, Quiroz, and Kerrigan also drove in two runs each. Rainel Rosario and Christopher Escarrega each hit solo homers for the Conspiradores.

Piratas de Campeche (11-15) 12, Olmecas de Tabasco (13-13) 7 – An RBI single by Addison Russell and a grand slam by Cal Mitchell in the top of the ninth got the Piratas past Tabasco. Mitchell finished the game 4-for-4 with five RBIs and drove in Campeche’s first run with a single in the first.

Guerreros de Oaxaca (16-10) 10, Leones de Yucatan (9-17) 3 – On a night where he went 4-for-5, Ricardo Valenzuela hit his ninth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the ninth, scored twice, and drove in three runs as the Guerreros improved to six games over .500. Oaxaca starter Radhames Liz allowed one run on six hits and a walk, striking out four in six innings. Jordan Diaz went 3-for-4 for Yucatan.

Caliente de Durango (13-13) 20, Rieleros de Aguascalientes (13-12) 6 – Marek Chlup went 4-for-5 and drove in four runs in his Liga Mexicana de Beisbol debut, clubbing a three-run homer in the sixth as Durango won a boat race against Aguascalientes. Chlup added an RBI double, and the Caliente got homers from Jonathan Villar, who hit a two-run homer in the fourth, and Webster Rivas, who hit a three-run shot in the eighth. Angel Reyes went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer for the Rieleros in the loss.

Charros de Jalisco (14-12) 9, Acereros de Monclova (13-13) 2 – Kyle Garlick continues to add flavor to the Charros’ lineup and went 3-for-4 with a double and a solo homer, scoring three times, and driving in four runs, and Michael Wielansky and Josh Fuentes each drove in two runs in the win for Jalisco. Zac Grotz allowed two runs on six hits in six innings for Jalisco.

Saraperos de Saltillo (8-17) 3, Toros de Tijuana (18-7) 0 – Wilmer Font allowed two hits and struck out four, walking none over seven scoreless innings as the Saraperos stifled the Toros Saturday night. Thairo Estrada hit a solo homer in the first, and Oscar Campos drove in a pair of insurance runs in the seventh for Saltillo.
