The 2012 American League Rookie of the Year, Neftali Feliz, signed with the Piratas de Campeche and made his 2026 debut in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol Tuesday night.
Feliz, 38, has pitched in Mexico’s summer circuit since 2022, when he made 41 appearances for the Sultanes de Monterrey, finishing 37 games and recording 24 saves and a 2.89 ERA in 43 2/3 innings. He’s since pitched for the Toros de Tijuana, Caliente de Durango, and Leones de Yucatan, throwing 122 2/3 innings in 117 appearances, recording 54 saves 139 strikeouts, 59 walks, and a 2.49 career ERA in the LMB.
The native of Azua, Dominican Republic got roughed up in his first outing with the Piratas, allowing two runs on three hits over 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and a wild pitch in a 15-12 win against the Bravos de Leon.
Over the winter, Feliz returns to his native Dominican Republic, where he has appeared in nine seasons in LIDOM, most recently with the Estrellas Orientales this past winter, where he recorded one save in 17 appearances, throwing 16 innings with a 0.59 ERA.
He appeared in 362 MLB games with Texas, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Philadelphia, and the Los Angeles Dodgers between 2010-21, and attended spring training with the Seattle Mariners in 2025.
Schoop On the Shelf – After suffering a hand injury on April 29, the Dorados de Chihuahua have placed Jonathan Schoop on the 15-day Injured List retroactive to April 29. Schoop went 1-for-1 in a 3-2 win against the Charros de Jalisco that day, singling in the first and then being hit by a pitch in the third. He later scored, but left the game and has not returned to the lineup.
