Former Major Leaguer Cesar Valdez allowed two hits over six scoreless innings for the Leones de Yucatan, who won 3-0 against the Guerreros de Oaxaca to force a deciding game seven in their Zona Sur first round series.
Taylor Motter’s RBI single in the bottom of the second scored Luis Juarez with the only run the Leones would need. They added two more in the sixth when Juarez hit a two-run homer to make it 3-0.
Lisandro Santos and Alexandro Tovalin each threw a scoreless inning for Yucatan, setting up Neftali Feliz, who earned a three-out save, striking out the side on 15 pitches in the ninth.
Radhames Liz threw six innings for Oaxaca, allowing three runs on five hits, walking one and striking out four.
Game seven is Tuesday night at 9:35 p.m. EDT at Estadio Victor Cervera Pacheco in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, with starting pitchers yet to be announced.
Because a rainout Sunday pushed the final two games of the series back a day, games one and two of the Zona Sur series between the Diablos Rojos del Mexico and the loser of the series between Yucatan and Oaxaca will be schedule for Thursday and Friday at 9 p.m. EDT.
