The field of teams for the 2027 Jax College Baseball Classic was announced this week. The invitational event will be February 26-28 at VyStar Ballpark in Jacksonville, Fla. The ballpark is normally home to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, who are the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins.
World Baseball Network takes a look at the four teams playing in next season’s Jax College Baseball Classic.
ACC Champion Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Headline the Jax College Baseball Classic
The headlining team for the 2027 Jax College Baseball Classic is the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. In 2026, under first-year head coach James Ramsey, the Yellow Jackets won the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) regular season and tournament titles.
Georgia Tech was the No. 2 national seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament and won 50 games. It was the most wins for a Georgia Tech team in a single season, dating back to 2006.
The Yellow Jackets will be the marquee team playing at VyStar Ballpark for next season’s Jax College Classic.
Tennessee represents the SEC in Jacksonville
The Tennessee Volunteers will make their way down to VyStar Ballpark to play in the 2027 Jax College Baseball Classic. Much like Georgia Tech, the Volunteers are coming off a season with a first-year head coach in Josh Elander.
Tennessee finished with a 38-22 overall record and made the NCAA Tournament for the seventh-straight season. The Volunteers lost both games they played in the Chapel Hill regional against the East Carolina Pirates and the VCU Rams.
Illinois and Cincinnati round out the 2027 field in Jacksonville
The final two teams in the 2027 Jax College Baseball Classic are the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Cincinnati Bearcats.
In 2026, Illinois finished the season 28-27 overall and was 14-16 in Big Ten conference play. They finished in ninth place in the Big Ten standings.
The Cincinnati Bearcats finished the season 38-22 overall and were 17-13 in Big 12 play. Head coach Jordan Bischel led the Bearcats to their second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance as they played in the Starkville regional. Cincinnati won its first game of the 2026 NCAA Tournament at Dudy Noble Field against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, 12-2.
