Former Major League Baseball middle infielder Jose Peraza has signed with the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol’s Leones de Yucatan for the upcoming season.
Peraza, 29, has played 618 MLB games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, and New York Mets, slashing .279/.318/.374 with a .692 OPS, 35 homers and 182 RBI. He last appeared in the Major Leagues in 2021 with the Mets, batting .204/.266/.380 in 64 games with six homers and 20 RBI.
The Leones went 47-43 in the 2023 LMB regular season, finishing fifth in the Zona Sur. They defeated the Olmecas de Tabasco four games to one in the first round of the playoffs and El Aguila de Veracruz in the second round, again by a four games to one margin, to advance to the Zona Sur championship series. Yucatan fell to the Pericos de Puebla in the penultimate series four games to one, and the Pericos went on to win the Serie del Rey, the LMB championship series.
Peraza spent 2023 in the New York Mets organization, appearing in 49 minor league games across three levels. In 41 games with Triple-A Syracuse, Peraza hit .261 in 147 at bats with two homers and nine RBI.
Over the past winter, he batted .311/.336/.462 in 27 games with the Navegantes de Magallanes in the Liga Venezolana Beisbol Profesional, clubbing three homers and driving in 16 runs.
