The Los Angeles Dodgers Triple-A Affiliate in Oklahoma City changes identity layout for their organization prior to the start of the 2024 regular season ditching team name with the Major League Baseball franchise announced on Thursday.

The temporary name of the team will be the Oklahoma City Baseball Club for the 2024 regular season and a new team name unveiled as the permanent name for the 2025 season.

All front office officials with the Oklahoma City Baseball Club are already having on-going discussions on the new team name for the 2025 regular season.

The Dodgers have had their Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City since the 2015 regular season prior to the franchise being with the Houston Astros from 2011-14.

Oklahoma City has had Minor League Baseball since the 1962 season when the Houston Colt .45s now the Houston Astros operated with the American Association Double-A level league for just one year prior to being moved to the Pacific Coast League Triple-A level league from 1963-68.

The Oklahoma City Baseball Club will have their brand identity bring back a vintage look for the versions of the team’s most recent suite of logos that gives a tribute to the 89ers franchise who played from 1962-97 and was with the MLB organization with the .45s-Astros until 1972, the Cleveland Indians from 1973-75, the Philadelphia Phillies from 1976-82, and the Texas Rangers from 1983-97.

The name of the 89ers franchise was changed to the Oklahoma RedHawks prior to the start of the 1998 regular season with the Rangers having their Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City until after the 2010 regular season.

“For the last nine years, it has been an honor and a privilege to share one of the most iconic brands in all of professional sports. However, we’re excited this new era affords us the opportunity to strengthen our connection to our community and reinforce that we are Oklahoma City’s team,” Oklahoma City Baseball Club President/General Manager Michael Byrnes stated to the media on Thursday.

The Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers played in the Triple-A National Championship Game against the Triple-A Norfolk Tide of the Baltimore Orioles organization and lost 7-6 at Las Vegas Ballpark on September 30.
