Diablos Rojos del Mexico (54-25) 9, Bravos de Leon (41-38) 7 (19 Innings) – Good teams find a way to win, but great teams find ways to win and keep battling to the bitter end.
So it was for the Diablos Rojos last night, who won their 14th straight game, taking a 19-inning, six hour and 29-minute marathon from the Bravos de Leon 9-7 on an RBI triple by Carlos Sepulveda after Leon had tied the game in what would have been their final at-bat in the ninth, 14th, and 17th innings.

Jon Singleton gave the Diablos a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth with his second homer of the game and 25th of the year, a two-run shot that scored Sepulveda, but Leon tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Esteban Quiroz.
In the top of the 14th, the Diablos again took a two-run lead on RBI singles by Rio Ruiz and Juan Carlos Gamboa, only to have LMB home run leader Gabriel Cancel tie the game with his 27th long ball of the year in the bottom of the frame.

A ground out to first in the top of the 17th by Moises Gutierrez scored Gamboa to again give the Diablos a lead that wouldn’t last. Esteban Quiroz drew a bases-loaded walk in the home half of the 17th to tie the game at seven apiece when Carlos Martinez was pushed across.
Diablos pitching coach Brooks Hall came on to pitch the 18th and was the 12th pitcher to appear in the game for the Reds, a league record, and the 12 Diablos pitchers combined to strike out 25 Leon batters, also a team record for total strikeouts in a game. Hall allowed two hits and recorded a strikeout over two innings, earning a win after Sepulveda’s triple got the winning run home and a single by Moises Gutierrez scored Sepulveda for insurance.
The Diablos’ 14th consecutive win equals a team record set in 1940, the year the team was founded, when the club won 15 straight games, and the game was the longest by time in team history. The 23 pitchers used between both teams set a league record.
Tonight, the Reds can tie the franchise record with a 15th consecutive win. They’ll start Justin Courtney against the Bravos’ Felipe Gonzalez.

Piratas de Campeche (39-36) 6, El Aguila de Veracruz (37-41) 5 – Resuming a game suspended on June 4, Campeche survived an eighth-inning rally by Veracruz punctuated by a three-run homer by Roberto Valenzuela to win for the 39th time this year. Andrew Stevenson and Cal Mitchell each drove in a pair of runs for the Piratas.
El Aguila de Veracruz (38-41) 3, Piratas de Campeche (39-37) 1 (Game 2/Seven Innings) – Roberto Valenzuela hit a two-run homer and Daniel Montano followed him with a solo homer in the top of the first, and El Aguila held on to win the second game of the double header. Andrew Stevenson had an RBI triple in the loss for Campeche.
Saraperos de Saltillo (32-45) 17, Sultanes de Monterrey (41-37) 5 – Leading 5-1 when the June 4 contest was resumed last night, the Saraperos scored seven in the fifth and four more in the seventh to cruise to their 32nd win of the season. Chris Carter and Oscar Colas each hit two-run homers for Saltillo in the completion.
Sultanes de Monterrey (42-37) 2, Saraperos de Saltillo (32-46) 1 (Game 2/Eight Innings) – Kellen Strahm singled home Hector Jacquez in the top of the eighth to get the Sultanes a split of the doubleheader. Javier Salazar drove in Monterrey’s first run with a single in the fifth.
Pericos de Puebla (41-37) 16, Olmecas de Tabasco (46-34) 8 – Henry Ramos hit for the cycle, going 4-for-5 with six RBIs, hitting a two-run homer in the sixth, a two-run double in the seventh, an RBI triple in the third and an RBI single in the first as the Pericos doubled up Tabasco. Michael De La Cruz went 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs for Puebla, and Luis Castro drove in three runs in the romp. Yamaico Navarro hit a three-run homer for Tabasco.
Tigres de Quintana Roo (40-37) 10, Guerreros de Oaxaca (41-38) 5 – The Tigres scored three runs in the second, sixth, and seventh innings, and got three RBIs each from Danny Ortiz and Alexis Wilson to stay in the mix for the third and final playoff spot that includes home field advantage in the Zona Sur, where they are a half-game behind third-place Puebla.

Caliente de Durango (43-35) 6, Dorados de Chihuahua (31-48) 1 – Daniel Johnson, Elier Hernandez, and Leobaldo Pina each homered for Durango as they easily dispatched Chihuahua in the series opener. Spencer Turnbull allowed one run on five hits and struck out three over six innings for the Caliente.

Rieleros de Aguascalientes (36-39) 7, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (29-50) 1 – Angel Reyes, Jose Manuel Orozco, and Matthew Batten each drove in a pair of runs for Aguascalientes as the Rieleros handed the Tecos their 50th loss of the season.

Conspiradores de Queretaro (33-45) 11, Leones de Yucatan (27-50) 6 – Yurisbel Gracial homered twice for Queretaro, hitting a three-run homer in the fifth and a solo homer in the eighth, as the Conspiradores pinned the 50th defeat of the season on the toothless Leones.

Charros de Jalisco (40-38) 5, Toros de Tijuana (51-25) 4 – Alex Mejia went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI as the Charros took the series opener from Zona Norte-leading Tijuana. The Toros got a solo homer in the seventh from Aderlin Rodriguez but couldn’t close the gap. With the win, the Charros moved into sole possession of fourth place in the north.
Algodoneros de Union Laguna (37-42) 11, Acereros de Monclova (40-39) 3 – Yadir Drake went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the Algodoneros won their second straight and kept pace behind Aguascalientes, who they trail by a single game for the final playoff spot in the Zona Norte.
