CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Thursday, May 21, the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Boston College Eagles 8-2 at Truist Field. The Hurricanes win their second-straight ACC Tournament game to advance to the semifinal round.
The Hurricanes faced a 2-0 deficit after the first inning and would provide a strong response. At the top of the second inning, Miami scored four runs to take the lead back, and they did not give it up.
Miami’s pitching had a strong showing as they did not allow a run for the final eight innings of the game. The Hurricanes also outhit the Eagles 15-5.
Boston College head coach Todd Interdonato gave Miami credit for playing a complete game against his squad.
“They played a complete game,” Interdonato said. “I thought when we provided a threat with their bullpen arms, they were still able to make big pitches and play elite defense.”
Young Miami hitters show out against the Eagles
Freshman Gabriel Milano and sophomore Fabio Peralta led the Hurricanes in hitting. Both players had three hits apiece and combined for three RBIs.
Milano finished with two doubles in the game. Peralta had a two-run home run in the second inning that was key for Miami regaining the lead after falling behind quickly. It was his first home run of the season.
Miami head coach JD Arteaga talked about the poise Milano and Peralta had as young players in the postseason.
“It is almost June,” Arteaga said. “There aren’t that young anymore. Fabio [Peralta] has received a lot of at-bats. Milano works hard every day in practice.”
Milano had to step in for All-American third baseman Daniel Cuvet, who is currently not playing due to a stress fracture in his back.
Arteaga added: “He worked hard, got his opprotunity, and ran with it.”
Canes bullpen steps up in a big way
The Miami bullpen stood out hugely during the win over Boston College. Nick Robert, Jack Durso, Packy Bradley-Cooney, and Lyndon Glidewell all pitched one inning apiece, were very efficient, and allowed no runs.
None of the four bullpen arms that pitched for the Hurricanes threw more than 17 pitches. Durso and Bradley-Cooney both had a strikeout each. Glidewell led the relievers in the win over the Eagles with two strikeouts.
Boston College was able to get only two hits off the four Miami relievers.
Up next for Miami
The Miami Hurricanes are moving on to the ACC Tournament semifinal. On Saturday, May 23, they will play the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Truist Field. The first pitch for that game is at 1 p.m. ET.
