Miami Hurricanes starting pitcher Nick Robert will miss the remainder of the 2025 season to undergo Tommy John surgery. The sophomore from Stuart, Fla., made six starts this season.
Robert was coming off a promising freshman season out of the bullpen. He had four saves in 29 appearances and was moved into a weekend rotation role for the Hurricanes.
His best starts of the 2025 season came at the beginning of the year on opening day against Niagara and then Princeton on Feb. 21. He went five innings in both outings and threw 12 strikeouts compared to just two walks in both starts combined.
In Robert’s recent starts against Stetson and North Carolina, he only went 1.2 innings in both games combined.
This is a tough loss for Miami as they lose one of their main starters. Brian Walters and Griffin Hugus were already in the Hurricanes’ weekend rotation.
Reese Lumpkin has been Miami’s main midweek starter and is a likely candidate to fill in for Robert.
The Hurricanes are above .500 overall this season at 18-16. However, they have not fared well in ACC play, with a 4-8 conference record. On top of that, losing a starting pitcher who plays in those conference weekend series does not help them get back to winning ways.
Miami is currently playing a weekend series against the Duke Blue Devils at Alex Rodriguez Park.
