The Field of Dreams Game will return to the Major League Baseball schedule for the first time since 2022, but not to be overlooked is minor league baseball’s return to Dyersville, Iowa. The St. Paul Saints and Iowa Cubs will face off at the iconic site two days before the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins face off there.
The first Field of Dreams Game took place in 2021 between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox. It was the first MLB Game in the state of Iowa, and the league returned to the iconic film site the following season, but also scheduled an MiLB game there. In 2022, the High-A Quad City River Bandits and Cedar Rapids Kernels face off on Aug. 11, 2026 in the first MiLB at Field of Dreams Game.
In that game, the teams took on throwback identities. The River Bandits played as the Davenport Blue Sox and the Kernels played as the Cedar Rapids Bunnies. Now, Triple-A baseball will make its debut at the Field of Dreams.
The Field of Dreams Game pays homage to the iconic, Academy Award-nominated film “Field of Dreams.” According to MLB.com’s Matthew Leach, since the last Field of Dreams games, “the beloved movie site has undergone a renovation and expansion.” The event will be streamed on Netflix as part of the league’s partnership with the streaming service. Iowa Cubs general manager Randy Wehofer was excited for the opportunity to take Triple-A baseball to the Field of Dreams.
“We are extremely excited Major League Baseball has invited us to become the first Triple-A team to host a game at the iconic Field of Dreams movie site,” Wehofer said, per MiLB.com. “I know it will be a magical experience for our fans, our players and our staff. I look forward to working with the team from the Commissioner’s Office, and our friends with the Saints and Diamond Baseball Holdings, to create wonderful memories for everyone involved.”
The Cubs and Twins have a combined seven players on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list. The game in August could feature some soon-to-be stars.
