One Game Closer to a Subway World Series: Championship Series Recap

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians had their hands full with the state of New York in yesterday’s Championship Series games. The New York Yankees and Guardians kicked off the American League Championship Series. Meanwhile, the Dodgers and New York Mets played Game 2.

New York Mets 7, Los Angeles Dodgers 3: If anyone thought the Mets would run into the Dodgers and the magic would stop, they were proven wrong in Game 2. The Mets broke the game open early after the Dodgers intentionally walked Francisco Lindor to face Mark Vientos. Vientos responded with a Grand Slam. The Mets dismantled the Dodgers’ plan to throw a bullpen game without any of their leverage arms. The Dodgers left ten men on base, were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, and managed just five hits.

New York Yankees 5, Cleveland Guardians 2: Giancarlo Stanton’s legs may not be up to par with the rest of the league, but his bat works just fine. Stanton has a .368 average in the postseason and a 1.244 OPS. He homered in the bottom of the seventh inning. Juan Soto started the scoring off with a solo shot in the third inning. The MVP for the Yankees last night was Carlos Rodón. He gave the Yankees six innings with nine strikeouts. Clay Holmes was great in his one inning. Luke Weaver was once again great. He got the save after 1 2/3 innings of work with four strikeouts.
