Panama has announced its roster for the Central American and Caribbean Games, which will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from July 31 to Aug. 7. Panama is in Group B with defending champion Mexico, Nicaragua and the 2023 Pan American Games champion, Colombia.
Players to Watch
The former Dodgers minor leaguer last played professionally in 2024, reaching High-A before returning to Panama’s Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Mayor. This season with Herrera, Alonso posted a .974 OPS with a league-leading five home runs. He is expected to start in the outfield for Panama during the tournament.
Another hitter to watch is Jhonny Santos. The outfielder was a reserve for Panama at the 2026 World Baseball Classic and is putting together another strong season in Panama’s summer league. He has a .923 OPS with three home runs and 18 RBIs for Chiriquí. Santos is also expected to start in the outfield.
On the mound, one of the pitchers to watch is former minor leaguer Kevin Miranda. The former Blue Jays farmhand reached Double-A in 2024 and 2025 before being released. Pitching for Chiriquí this season, Miranda has been the club’s top starter, posting a 1.43 ERA with 27 strikeouts and four walks in 25 1/3 innings. He is expected to slot into Panama’s starting rotation and serve as one of its top arms.
Another pitcher to watch is left-hander Davis Romero. The 43-year-old veteran has put together a dominant season with Coclé in the Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Mayor. Romero has thrown 23 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out 27 batters. He is expected to be one of Panama’s top pitchers during the tournament. Romero also represented Panama at the 2023 World Baseball Classic and briefly pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2006.
Panama opens the tournament against defending champion Mexico on July 31 before facing Nicaragua on Aug. 1 and Colombia on Aug. 2 to conclude Group B play. The top three teams from each group will advance to the super round. Group A consists of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Curaçao and Cuba.
