Baseball games don’t sell out at Rate Field, but Pope Leo does.
Chicago will pay tribute to its native son, who was recently named Pope, with a celebration of his life and service to the Lord on Saturday, June 14.
Tickets, priced at a modest $5 by the Archdiocese of Chicago, have nearly sold out, with only a few remaining bleacher seats available.
“We sold over 10,000 tickets in the first half hour,” said Chicago White Sox senior vice president Christine O’Reilly, who told Fox 32 in Chicago. “I think it’s amazing, and it goes to show that the Pope is a pope for all people, and people want to be part of this.”
The celebration will feature a video message from Pope Leo XIV to the young people of the world, according to the Archdiocese. The afternoon will also feature a Catholic Mass.
Chicago Bulls announcer Chuck Swirsky will serve as the master of ceremonies for the event.
Pope Leo’s fandom for the White Sox has reached unique heights, combining his love for his hometown team into a global storyline that continues to evolve. Pope Leo memorabilia remains a hot item, and the White Sox already have a graphic tribute at Rate Field.
