Puerto Rico has revealed the rest of the coaching staff for the WBSC Premier12 that will be joining manager Juan Gonzalez on his staff this upcoming November.
Serving as bench coach for the Premier12 team will be former Major League Baseball infielder Alex Cintron. Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Cintron played from 2001-09 in the Diamondbacks, White Sox, Orioles and Nationals organization during his playing career. Cintrón has been a member of the Houston Astros coaching staff since 2018, where he is now the bench coach under manager Joe Espada.
Dicky Gonzalez, 45, will be Puerto Rico’s pitching coach. The Bayamon native made his MLB debut with the Mets in 2001, and also threw with the Rays in 2004. Gonzalez also spent time in Japan from 2005-13 with the Yakult Swallows, Yomiuri Giants, and the Chiba Lotte Marines.
Also joining Puerto Rico’s staff for the Premier12 will be Edgar Perez as their infield coordinator, Eddie Gonzalez coaching first base, Eduardo Nunez coaching third base, and Juan Carlos Montero handling duties as the bullpen coach.
Puerto Rico’s first game will take place on November 9, where they will play the United States at Estadio Santa Teresita in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico.
