With winter baseball approaching around the corner and regular seasons coming to a conclusion, teams are preparing their roster for the 2024-25 season for the Liga de Béisbol Profesional de la República Dominicana (LIDOM). Tigres del Licey infielder Ronny Mauricio will not participate this winter as he recovers from ACL surgery.

Mauricio, 23, was born in the Dominican Republic. He made his MLB debut in 2023 with the New York Mets. Mauricio played in 26 games with the Mets, hitting for a .248 average, blasting two home runs and nine RBIs while also stealing seven bases.

Mauricio has played second base, third base, and shortstop for the Tigres del Licey for the past four winters. He put the league on notice during the 2022-23 season, playing in 46 games with the Tigres, blasting five home runs, 31 RBIs, and stealing ten bases while hitting for a .287 average.

In December 2023, in Mauricio’s eighth game during the 2023-24 LIDOM season, Mauricio was attempting to steal second base when he then stumbled and went down due to injury. He would be assisted off the field, ending his winter season and missing the entire 2024 season. In those eight games, Mauricio hit .441, hitting one home run and driving in five RBIs.

For the remainder of the season, the Mets are having Mauricio rest up to gear up for Spring Training in 2025. With Pete Alonso set to hit the free agent market, if the Mets let Alonso walk and move infielder Mark Vientos over to first base, a job at third base could potentially open up. There will be a competition this upcoming spring training to see where Ronny Mauricio will begin the 2025 season.
