Samsung Lions Extend Veteran Outfielder Kim Hun-gon

After re-signing Denyi Reyes and Lewin Diaz, the Samsung Lions continued bringing back postseason heroes. On Monday, the club announced they had agreed to terms with outfielder Kim Hun-gon on a two-year extension worth up to 600 million won with incentives.

The 36-year-old Kim has spent his entire 14-year career with the Lions, racking up 685 hits and a .711 OPS. Following an injury-plagued 2023 season, 2024 represented a return to form for the veteran, as he posted a career-high .302 batting average while posting his highest OPS (.798) and home run (9) total since 2018.  Kim also came up huge in the postseason, getting a Game Two start in place of an injured Kim Ja-Wook and blasting two home runs.

With the re-signings of Diaz and Kim, the Lions are set to bring back the heart of a lineup that led the league and finished second third with 806 runs scored.
