San Juan Preparing for World Baseball Classic With Stadium Renovations

The World Baseball Classic is less than a year away, and Hiram Bithorn Stadium in Puerto Rico is undergoing renovations to prepare. San Juan will host Pool A of the tournament.

According to Metro, a Puerto Rican news outlet, the renovations will cost nearly $40 million. San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo noted that they are trying to meet infrastructure requirements. He also noted that an MLB inspector visited the stadium and was pleased with the progress.

Romero Lugo noted that the World Baseball Classic is a tremendous economic opportunity and that the tourism and media coverage will surpass their investment in the stadium. Among renovations happening at Hiram Bithorn are the addition of 15,800 seats, a new synthetic field, field lighting, a new ticket office, and much more, according to Metro.
