The postseason hardware has started to roll in for Shohei Ohtani. He won his third career Louisville Silver Slugger Award following his historic 2024 season.
When Ohtani joined the Los Angeles Dodgers, and it was revealed he would not be able to pitch, many expected him to have a great season, but not historic. Well, as it turned out, despite not taking the mound, Ohtani did something that had never been done. He achieved the first 50/50 season in Major League Baseball history,
Ohtani ended the season with 54 home runs, 130 RBIs, and a .310 batting average. His All-Star campaign ended with a World Series title. He is the favorite to win National League MVP as well.
Ohtani beat Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves to claim the Silver Slugger Award. He joins elite company with David Ortiz, Paul Molitar, Edgar Martinez, Don Baylor, and Nelson Cruz as the only players to win the award three or more times as a designated hitter.
Ohtani not only claimed another Silver Slugger Award but also won his first World Series in his first year with the Dodgers. At just 30 years old, Ohtani is now a three-time Silver Slugger, four-time All-Star, soon-to-be three-time MVP and a World Series champion. Already on a Hall of Fame track, what will Ohtani do in 2025 to amaze MLB fans?
