The March to Mexicali Begins: Winter Ball Playoffs Underway As LVBP’s Round Robin Starts

The march to Mexicali, the host city for the 2025 Caribbean Series and the home of the Aguilas de Mexicali of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico, began yesterday with the start of the round robin playoffs in the Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional.

Bravos de Margarita 1, Navegantes de Magallanes 0 – Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Felix Doubront allowed two hits over six shutout innings for Margarita before passing off the ball in a scoreless game. Alexi Amarista drove in the game’s only run with a sac fly in the seventh that scored Herlis Rodriguez.

Cardenales de Lara 11, Tigres de Aragua 7 – Four different Cardenales each had a pair of RBIs as the regular season winners scored in five of the first six innings to cruise by Aragua to open the round robin. The Tigres nearly emptied the bullpen in the contest, using nine pitchers, five of whom pitched less than an inning. Guillermo Moscoso took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning.
