The Cape Cod League is officially underway as tons of college baseball players refine their skills along the Massachusetts coast. World Baseball Network takes a look at three players who have stood out during the league’s early action this summer.
Who has stood out in the 2026 Cape Cod League?
Andrew Costello, C, South Carolina Gamecocks
Head coach Kevin Schnall and the new South Carolina coaching staff have to be thrilled with the way Andrew Costello is playing for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod League. In 35 at-bats, he has 15 hits, leading to a league-leading .429 batting average. He also has two home runs and four RBIs with Bourne this summer.
Costello is transferring to South Carolina for the 2027 season after spending his freshman season with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. In 2026, he had a .255 batting average with Wake Forest in 47 at-bats. He also had four RBIs and hit a home run in a 3-2 win over Appalachian State on April 28.
Peyton Rodgers, RHP, UC Irvine Anteaters
Peyton Rodgers has gone 12 1/3 innings in the Cape Cod League and has allowed no runs. He is playing for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox this summer.
Rodgers just spent his first season with the UC Irvine Anteaters in 2026 after transferring there from San Diego State. In 2026, he had a 4.43 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings of work. He worked out of the bullpen for the Anteaters this season and recorded three saves against Sacramento State, California, and USC.
Jacob Lee, C, VCU Rams
VCU’s catcher Jacob Lee is leading the 2026 Cape Cod League in home runs with four. He is playing for the Brewster Whitecaps.
Lee has reached 10 hits this summer with the Whitecaps and has tacked on seven RBIs.
The catcher had a fantastic 2026 season with the Rams. He had a .336 batting average and a .465 on-base percentage as well. Lee also had 14 doubles, 17 home runs, and 56 RBIs.
He was a big part of leading VCU to the NCAA Tournament and winning the Atlantic 10 (A-10) Conference Tournament title last year. Lee was the A-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player.
