MEXICALI, Mexico – After five days of doubleheaders, the semifinals of the 2025 Caribbean Series land in El Nido de las Aguilas today.
The Japan Breeze have been eliminated following last night’s 10-0 no-hit mercy rule loss, finishing their Caribbean Series debut 0-4. It was a disappointing result, but eminently foreseeable given the roster they put together.
With Japan eliminated, Venezuela’s Cardenales de Lara will face the Dominican Republic’s Leones del Escogido in the first game at 5 p.m. EST, and Mexico’s Charros de Jalisco will face Puerto Rico’s Indios de Mayaguez in the late game at 10 p.m. Both games will be televised in English on MLB Network and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes.
Dominican Republic manager Albert Pujols named Brooks Hall the starter for the semifinal against Venezuela, a matchup we saw in the series opener, when the Leones del Escogido defeated the Cardenales de Lara 2-0 behind Francisco Mejia’s RBI triple. Hall threw five innings, allowing three hits and striking out three, walking none, and earning a no-decision.
Riding high off last night’s no-hitter, Henry Blanco has not announced a starter for his Cardenales.
In the nightcap, Mexico has announced David Reyes as their starter, who, like the D.R.’s Hall, faced his semifinal opponent in his team’s Caribbean Series opener. Mexico beat Puerto Rico 8-1 in that game, and Reyes was spectacular, throwing seven innings and allowing one run on four hits, walking one and striking out four.
The winners of today’s semifinal games advance to Friday’s championship game, which is scheduled for 10 p.m. EST, while today’s losing teams will square off in tomorrow’s third place game at 10 p.m. EST. Both games will be televised in English on MLB Network and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes.
