Winter Ball Roundup: Bonifacio Smacks 200th LIDOM Hit; Venados On To LAMP Semifinals

Emilio Bonifacio went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two walks and two RBI for the Tigres del Licey Monday night, leading the defending LIDOM champs past the Estrellas Orientales 9-2.

The Tigres improved to 6-4 with the win, while the first-place Estrellas are 8-2 after the loss.

In the bottom of the third, Bonifacio’s single to center field gave him 200 career hits in LIDOM, and his third hit of the night, a single in the eighth was No. 201. Bonifacio ranks second all-time in career hits in LIDOM, 150 base hits behind Luis Polonia.

Miguel Andujar went 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI for the Tigres.

Gigantes 8, Leones 7 – Edwin Espinal’s single in the bottom of the ninth sent Yefri Perez home with the winning run for the Gigantes, who improved to 2-8. The Gigantes win combined with the Estrellas loss kept the Gigantes tragic number at two.

The Leones del Escogido face the Tigres del Licey at 6:15 p.m. EST Tuesday, and the Estrellas Orientales face the Gigantes del Cibao at 6:30 p.m. EST. All LIDOM games are streamed on MLB.tv with a paid subscription.

Venados Eliminate Charros, Advance to LAMP Semifinals – A three-run first inning by the Venados de Mazatlan provided enough offense to get them past the Charros de Jalisco, giving them a 4-2 series victory.

Alex Liddi drove in Randy Romero, who led off the bottom of the first with a triple, and three batters later, Jesus Valdez hit a two-run homer to left, giving the Venados a 3-0 lead.

Mazatlan starter Manuel Flores scattered four hits over six innings and struck out three to earn the win.

Algodoneros Have Mexicali Blues, Fall 9-1 in Game Six – Leo Heras went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored, and three RBI as the Aguilas de Mexicali took game six of their first round series from the Algodoneros de Guasave 9-1.

Game seven between Guasave and Mexicali is scheduled for Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. EST. Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico games can be streamed via Extrabase.tv for a fee.

Cardenales Hand Tiburones First Loss In LVBP Round Robin – Jermaine Palacios singled to left field in the top of the seventh, sending Gorkys Hernandez home with the go-ahead run, as the Cardenales de Lara defeated the Tiburones de La Guaira 8-7 Monday night.

The loss was the first of the LVBP round robin for La Guaira, who fell to 5-1. The Cardenales, who won the LVBP regular season, are 2-4 in the round robin.

Franklin Barreto went 2-for-4 for La Guaira with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third.

Bravos 5, Tigres 4 – Veteran starter Felix Dubrount scattered six hits across six innings of work, walked two and struck out two, as the Bravos de Margarita edged the Tigres de Aragua 5-4.

Wilson Ramos’ RBI single to left in the top of the ninth drove in Ali Castillo with the winning run for Margarita, which improved to 3-2. Aragua fell to 2-4 with the loss.

Margarita will face Lara tonight at 6 p.m. EST, and Caracas will face Aragua at 6 p.m. EST.

LBPRC: Leones de Ponce 9, Gigantes de Carolina 1 – Calvin Estrada went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the Leones de Ponce forced a deciding game seven with a 9-1 win over the Gigantes de Carolina on Monday night.

Jesmuel Valentin went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in the third and a solo homer in the sixth. Five Leones pitchers combined to allow seven hits, one walk, and one run in game six, with starter Pedro Echemendia earning the win by going five innings and allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out five.

Game seven of the series will be played at 6:10 EST on Wednesday. All LBPRC games are streamed via the league’s facebook page.
