In the World Baseball Rankings published by the World Baseball Softball Confederation, Panama is ranked No. 8, Nicaragua No. 16, Guatemala No. 51, Costa Rica No. 53, Honduras No. 58, and El Salvador No. 65. In the WBSC Americas sector, Panama is No. 4, Nicaragua No. 9, Guatemala No. 18, Costa Rica No. 19, Honduras No. 21, and El Salvador No. 23.

All six nations are part of the WBSC Americas Sector through the Central and North American Baseball Confederation (CONCEBE).

According to the Olympics website, “The International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the Guatemalan National Olympic Committee (NOC) due to a domestic legal dispute regarding the NOC’s leadership and governance. The dispute centered on who should lead the Olympic Committee, with the IOC recognizing one leader and the Guatemalan electoral body recognizing another. This suspension meant Guatemalan athletes could not participate in international multi-sport events under their own flag. However, the suspension was later provisionally lifted, allowing Guatemalan athletes to compete under their flag in Paris 2024.

Further details on the suspension are archived here, with the formal reinstatement issued March 19, 2024.

During the suspension, Guatemala competed under the label Team WBSC or NTW due to restrictions on flag use at WBSC-governed events.

Guatemala earned points in WBSC competitions by finishing 12th at the 2024 U-18 Men’s Baseball World Cup on August 2, 2024, securing 18 points, placing 10th at the 2024 VI PanAmerican Sub-15 on March 16 (earning 21 points), placing fourth at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games Qualifier on February 6 (15 points), and placing seventh at the 2022 U-23 Men’s Baseball World Cup Qualifier on June 10 (earning 12 points).

Panama and Nicaragua are expected to use the 2025 Central American Games to evaluate players for their 2026 World Baseball Classic rosters. Both nations will also use the tournament to assess talent ahead of the 2025–26 winter league seasons in Panamá Probeis and the Liga de Beisbol Profesional Nacional.

Baseball has been part of the Central American Games since 1977.

The most recent edition of the tournament was held in 2017 in Managua, Nicaragua, at Estadio Nacional Dennis Martínez. That event marked the stadium’s debut following its grand opening.

Panama has won two gold medals in tournament history, in 2010 and 1997. Nicaragua leads all countries with seven titles in 1977, 1986, 1994, 2001, 2006, 2013, and 2017.

El Salvador’s lone gold came in 1990. Costa Rica has won silver in 1986 and bronze in 2010. Guatemala earned silver in 1994, 2001, and 2006.

Honduras’s highest achievement at the CAG was when they won the bronze medal in 1986, 1990, 1994, 1997, and 2006.

At the 2017 event, Panama won silver while El Salvador and Guatemala shared the bronze.

The event has rotated across several Central American cities: San Salvador in 1977 and 1994, Tegucigalpa in 1990, San Pedro Sula in 1997, Managua in 2006 and 2017, Panama City in 2010, and San José in 2013.

Guatemala City will host baseball at the Central American Games for the third time, having done so previously in 1986 and 2001.

No game schedule for the 2025 tournament has been announced. All information for the 2025 CAG can be found here
