Privacy Policy

World Baseball Network LLC (“WBN,” “we,” “us”) publishes baseball news, live scores, video, and community features at worldbaseball.com and related sites and apps (the “Services”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, how we use artificial intelligence, and the rights you have over your information.

We have written this policy to be read, not skimmed past. If anything here is unclear, email privacy@worldbaseball.com and we will answer.

Who is responsible for your information. World Baseball Network LLC is the controller of the personal information described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what we need to run a baseball publication, a membership, a store, and a community.

Sensitive information. We do not collect Social Security numbers, government identification numbers, financial account numbers, precise geolocation, biometric data, health data, or information about your race, religion, political opinions, sexual orientation, or union membership. We do not ask for these and you should never send them to us.

A note on our previous policy. An earlier version of this policy contained language, inherited from a template, describing the collection of Social Security numbers and the sale of leads to automotive lenders. WBN has never operated an automotive business and has never collected Social Security numbers. That language has been removed.

2. Why We Use Your Information, and Our Legal Basis

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the law requires us to identify a legal basis for each use.

We do not make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects using solely automated means.

3. We Do Not Sell Your Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We have not done so in the preceding twelve months, and we do not sell or share the personal information of anyone we know to be under 16.

If this ever changes, we will update this policy before the change takes effect and provide a clear “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control. In the meantime, we honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out request.

4. Who We Share Information With

We share personal information only with the categories of recipients below, and only for the purposes described.

Third-party content, data, and links. Live scores, standings, and league data are supplied by sports data providers and league sources. Prediction-market prices are supplied by prediction-market operators and are shown for information only, not as betting advice. Video is delivered through third-party video hosting platforms. Our Where to Watch pages link to broadcasters and streaming services. When you click an outbound link or load embedded content, that third party may receive your IP address and set its own cookies under its own policy. We enable privacy-enhanced playback modes where our video platforms offer them, and we do not control third-party practices.

We identify our current providers by function rather than by name, because providers change. If you would like to know which specific companies process your personal information at any given time, email privacy@worldbaseball.com and we will tell you.

Anything you post publicly is public. Messages in community areas can be read, copied, and reused by others. Please do not share personal details there that you would not want to be permanent.

5. Cookies, Local Storage, and Similar Technologies

We use a deliberately small set of technologies, in the categories below.

Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting anything other than strictly necessary technologies, and we make it as easy to withdraw consent as to give it. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may stop working.

Your browser’s language preference and cached translations are stored locally on your own device, not on our servers.

6. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Processing

We believe you are entitled to know where software, rather than a person, is acting on our Services.

Machine translation. The Services offer on-demand translation into many languages. Translation is performed automatically and the translated text is cached in your browser. Automated translation can be inaccurate, and translated pages should be treated as a convenience rather than an authoritative version. The English version governs.

Editorial use of AI. We may use AI tools to assist newsroom work such as drafting summaries, generating headline options, transcribing interviews, tagging content, and detecting duplicate or low-quality submissions. Editorial responsibility remains human. Substantive articles are reviewed by a human editor before publication, and where a story is materially generated by AI we label it.

Community safety. We may use automated tools to screen community messages for spam, harassment, and abuse. Automated screening can flag or delay a message; a human reviews suspensions and removals, and you may contest any such decision by emailing privacy@worldbaseball.com.

Analytics and personalization. We may use automated analysis to understand which content resonates and, in future, to arrange content around the leagues and teams you follow. This does not produce legal or similarly significant effects.

What we do not do. We do not use your account details, payment information, or private chat messages to train third-party generative AI models, and we do not sell your content to AI developers for training. If we ever intend to train models on user content, we will say so in advance and obtain consent where required.

Wire service and partner content. Some articles are supplied by news wire services, and some products promoted on our Services are AI tools operated by commercial partners. Those partners’ data practices are governed by their own policies.

7. Prediction Markets

We display prediction-market prices and market-implied probabilities as editorial information. Today this is display only: we do not place trades, we do not hold funds, and we do not transmit your personal information to any prediction-market platform when we show a price. Clicking through to a market operator takes you to that operator’s own service under its own terms and privacy policy.

If WBN later offers features that let you participate in prediction markets, that will involve additional information, potentially including identity verification, and we will publish an updated policy and obtain the consents and authorizations required before any such feature launches.

8. How Long We Keep Information

When information is no longer needed, we delete it or irreversibly aggregate it.

9. Your Rights

Everyone. You may ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or stop sending you marketing. You may unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any email, or close your account by emailing us.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland (GDPR). You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing based on legitimate interests. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting processing already carried out. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority; in the UK, that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.

If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected, the sources, our purposes, and the categories of third parties who received it; the right to delete; the right to correct; the right to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither); the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect it); and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or provide a lesser experience because you exercised a privacy right. California residents may also use an authorized agent, who must provide written permission and whose authority we may verify with you directly.

Other US states. Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and Montana, have substantially similar rights, including the right to appeal a refusal. To appeal, reply to our decision with the subject line “Privacy Appeal.”

How to exercise your rights. Email privacy@worldbaseball.com with the subject line “Privacy Request,” or write to us at the postal address above, marked “Attention: Privacy.” To protect your information we will verify your identity, usually by confirming control of the email address associated with your account. We respond within 45 days for US requests and within one month for GDPR requests, and we will tell you if we need a permitted extension. Exercising these rights is free unless a request is excessive or repetitive.

10. Children and Young People

The Services are intended for people aged 13 and over, and account registration, membership, the store, and community chat are restricted to those 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, email privacy@worldbaseball.com and we will delete it promptly.

We cover youth, amateur, and college baseball, including the Little League World Series and NCAA competition. Our coverage of these events is journalism about public sporting competition and does not involve collecting personal information from the young athletes we report on.

We do not sell or share the personal information of anyone we know to be under 16, and we do not knowingly serve targeted advertising to minors. Parents and guardians who have questions about a young person’s use of our community features are welcome to contact us.

11. International Transfers

WBN is based in the United States and our service providers may process information in the United States and elsewhere. If we transfer personal information out of the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we rely on lawful transfer mechanisms, principally the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses together with the UK Addendum, and we assess whether additional safeguards are needed. You may request a copy of the relevant safeguards by emailing us.

12. Security and Data Breaches

We protect information with encryption in transit, access controls that limit staff access to those with a business need, hardened hosting, and periodic review of our practices. Payment card data is handled by PCI-compliant processors and does not reach our systems. You are responsible for keeping your own password or sign-in credential confidential.

No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant regulators as required by law, including within 72 hours of becoming aware where GDPR applies.

13. Changes to This Policy

We will update this policy as our Services and the law evolve. When changes are material, we will revise the “Last updated” date, post a notice on the Services, and where the law requires it, seek your consent. Continuing to use the Services after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.

14. Governing Law and Contact

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of New York, without prejudice to rights you have under the mandatory laws of your own country or state.
