The Alabama Crimson Tide (40-19, 18-12 SEC) are hosting a super regional at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa against the St. John’s Red Storm (36-24, 15-6 Big East).
Both teams are looking for their first appearance in the College World Series this century.
Here is World Baseball Network’s preview of the 2026 Tuscaloosa super regional.
Alabama makes quick work of the Tuscaloosa regional
The Alabama Crimson Tide swept through the Tuscaloosa regional to advance to a super regional. It is the first regional title for Alabama head coach Rob Vaughn.
The Crimson Tide put together a complete performance across all three games against Alabama State, USC Upstate, and Oklahoma State.
The Alabama pitching staff had 31 strikeouts combined in the regional wins over Alabama State and Oklahoma State. Offensively, the Crimson Tide reached double-digit hits in all three games during the Tuscaloosa regional. They also had nine home runs during regional play this past weekend.
Heading into the Tuscaloosa super regional, Alabama is firing on all cylinders as they are eyeing a trip to Omaha.
St. John’s is playing well at the right time
The Big East Tournament champion St. John’s Red Storm entered last weekend’s Tallahassee regional as the fourth seed. The Red Storm proceeded to sweep through the regional and make thier first super regional in 14 years.
In three wins over Northern Illinois and Florida State twice, the St. John’s offense had some big games. In their first two wins of the Tallahassee regional, the Red Storm had 31 hits combined. They had 10 extra-base hits during those two games as well.
Heading into the Tuscaloosa super regional, St. John’s is riding an eight-game win streak. Their last loss was on May 14 against the Butler Bulldogs.
The major question for the Red Storm will be to see how their pitching staff holds up against an Alabama lineup that is playing at its best.
