A Look at Texas A&M Struggling as Conference Play Gets Closer

 Alfred Ezman - World Baseball Network  |    Mar 5th, 2025 11:00am EST

Following a 7-4 loss to the UTSA Roadrunners on Tuesday, the Texas A&M Aggies have now lost five of their last six games.

This same Aggies team started the 2025 season ranked number one overall in the country by D1 Baseball. Now, they have a 6-5 record here in early March.

Why is the reigning national runner-up struggling so much here in the early part of the season?

Hitting and Fielding Woes

First, their offense has not been up to par with where it could be. The Aggies have scored more than four runs in just one game of this bad six-game stretch.

The only game that showed a good offensive showing was against the Rice Owls. The team had 12 hits and five home runs and ended the game in a seven-inning run rule.

Beyond that, the offense just has not been there for head coach Michael Earley’s team. They rank dead last in the SEC in batting average at .247.

They finished with a .229 batting average against the Roadrunners in their most recent midweek game.

Texas A&M’s defense has also been bad at this point in the season. The rank last in the SEC in team fielding percentage at .956. They also have 15 errors as a team this season. This is the second most in the SEC only behind the Missouri Tigers.

In their most recent game against UTSA, Texas A&M had five errors.

Up Next

It is early in the 2025 season. However, the Aggies have just five more games before conference play begins and they play the Alabama Crimson Tide. A team who is still unbeaten.

The journey to turn the hitting and fielding around will begin on Wednesday, Mar. 5, as Texas A&M takes on Texas Southern at home in Blue Bell Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
