As September keeps on, promotions are being handed out left and right. In a minor league move, the Toronto Blue Jays are promoting starting pitcher Adam Macko to Triple-A Buffalo.

The 23-year-old was born in Bratislava, Slovakia, but attended Vauxhall High School in Alberta, Canada. According to Jeff Duda via X, Macko would be the first Slovakian player to begin their youth development in Slovakia and reach the big leagues.

The Seattle Mariners drafted Macko in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He pitched in the Mariners organization from 2019 to 2022. Macko reached the High-A Level, posting a 2-7 record, making 19 starts in 26 appearances and striking out 148 batters in 95 innings of work during his Mariners tenure.

During the 2022 offseason, the Mariners would trade Adam Macko and relief pitcher Erik Swanson in exchange for outfielder Teoscar Hernandez. Macko would pitch the entire 2023 season in High-A, where he made 20 starts, posting a 5-5 record, a 4.81 ERA, and walking 40 batters while striking out 106 batters in just 86 innings.

As for the 2024 season, he pitched most of his year with Double-A New Hampshire. Making 16 starts, he went 5-5, posting a 4.87 ERA, pitching in 81 innings, striking out 90 batters.

Macko will head up to Triple-A Buffalo, where he will likely begin the 2025 season. According to MLB Pipeline, he is currently the Blue Jays’ number 9 ranked prospect. Macko will be the second professional baseball player born in Slovakia when he makes his MLB debut.
