According to a post on Instagram by A & F Sports Agency and a post on X by his team, Guerreros de Oaxaca outfielder Jerar Encarnacion has signed with the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball.

Encarnacion, 26, had been tearing up the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol with Oaxaca, hitting .366/.439/.989 with a 1.429 OPS, 19 homers and 36 RBI across 93 at-bats in 26 games. Encarnacion had been named to the All-Star team for the LMB’s Zona Sur, but will be foregoing that honor to join the Giants organization.

The deal will send Encarnacion to Triple-A Sacramento. The Giants currently have seven outfielders on the 40-man roster, with two outfielders, Michael Conforto and Jung Ho Lee, on the 10-day Injured List, Austin Slater on the seven-day Injured List, and Wade Meckler in the minors, completing a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League.

The native of Bayaguana, Dominican Republic played 23 games for the Miami Marlins in 2022, batting .182/.210/.338 with three homers and 14 RBI. He struck out 32 times in 81 at-bats with Miami.

Last season, Encarnacion appeared in 122 games with Triple-A Jacksonville, batting .228 with 17 doubles, 26 homers, and 76 RBI, fanning 200 times in 516 at-bats.

He was signed as an international free agent by the Marlins on Sept. 8, 2015, and was granted free agency after the 2023 season before signing with Oaxaca of the LMB.

Encarnacion has played each of the last two winter seasons with the Aguilas Cibaenas of LIDOM, appearing in 51 games and clubbing six homer runs, driving in 29 runs and batting .275.
