Alexis Wilson Replaces Jays’ Alejandro Kirk on Mexico’s World Baseball Classic Roster

Former St. Louis Cardinals prospect Alexis Wilson will replace the Toronto Blue Jays’ Alejandro Kirk on Mexico’s World Baseball Classic roster.

Kirk, a catcher, withdrew from the event to be with his wife as they await the birth of their first child.

Kirk is a career .278 hitter at the plate, and has hit 23 home runs in 541 plate appearances. His caught stealing percentage in 2022 was 26%, indicating he threw out 26% of the baserunners that attempted to steal bases on him.

Wilson, who made it to the High-A level while under contract to Major League Baseball’s St. Louis Cardinals, has played in his native Mexico for the last three seasons with Culiacan of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico in the winter and Quintana Roo of the Liga Beisbol Mexicana during the summer. He appeared in five games of the 2021 Caribbean Series, going 2-for-10 with two doubles and a run scored, and appeared in one game of the 2022 Caribbean Series.
