Game 1 of the UAE Series, featuring the Arabia Wolves and Mid East Falcons took place on February 14 at Baseball United’s new stadium in Dubai. The Wolves trailed 4-0 at one point but came back to win the contest 6-5.
The Wolves trailed from the jump when two first-inning triples helped the Falcons jump out to an early lead. However, in the bottom of the second inning, Courtney Hawkins hit a long home run to left field and got the Wolves on the board.
Going into the fifth inning the score had held at 4-1 in favor of the Falcons. However, with two on and two out, Rudy Martin dumped a two-RBI single behind the shortstop and brought the Wolves to within one. Didi Gregorius stepped up with a chance to take the lead in the same inning but hit a long fly ball to center field to send the game into the sixth.
In the sixth inning, the Wolves tied the game up at four a piece. However, a bases-loaded walk helped put the Falcons back in front. The Wolves, trailing once again, rallied in the eighth inning to jump ahead. An RBI double from Gregorius tied the game and a hot shot to Pablo Sandoval by Shuhei Fukuda scored Gregorius from third base to give the Wolves a 6-5 lead.
Dovydas Neverauskas of Lithuania recorded three easy outs in the ninth inning to seal the win. Game 2 will start at 10:30 a.m. EST on February 15.
