On Friday, Australia faced the Dominican Republic in search of its first win in the Premier12. The Aussies won 5-0, an impressive shutout, and their pitching staff was on fire all game long.
Six different pitchers went to the mound for Australia, and Jon Kennedy was the only one who gave up a hit. All in all, the Dominican Republic only scratched one hit as a team, which came from left fielder Ricardo Cespedes.
Australia did not give up a lot of walks either, as the pitching staff gave up only three combined.
Coen Wynne is credited with the Aussies’ win. He struck out three batters during his two innings and allowed no hits, walks, or earned runs. Australia had six strikeouts, and Wynne was responsible for half of them.
The scoring got going in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run home run from Robbie Perkins. He gave Australia a 2-0 lead. Perkins went on to have 4 RBI total in the game, with two more RBI hits in the fourth and sixth innings. This extended Australia’s lead to 4-0.
The Aussies scored their final run of the game on a wild pitch in the fifth inning, making it 5-0. This was the final, as Australia captured their first Premier12 win.
After back-to-back losses following this game, the Dominican Republic falls to 1-2 in pool B. They will play tomorrow, Nov. 16, against Korea at 5:30 a.m. E.T. The game is at Taipei Tianmu Baseball Stadium.
