As we wrap up the 2024-2025 Australian Baseball League (ABL) regular season, the Sydney Blue Sox will likely finish with the best record. On the other hand, the Brisbane Bandits have the worst record in the ABL. However, the Bandits have recently found their groove, winning their last three games and going six and four in their previous ten games.
Perth’s Late Surge
The Perth Heat have sat at the bottom of the standings for most of the season. However, Perth has finished on an extremely strong note over the back half of the season. Currently, the Heat are in third place in the ABL standings, with 18 wins and 18 losses. Additionally, the Heat are one of the three teams in the ABL to have a positive run differential. Although the Heat do not seem to be as imposing of a team as the Adelaide Giants or the Sydney Blue Sox, the Heat have shown that they are the only one of the bottom four teams that can compete with the top two teams in the ABL standings.
Playing in Sydney
The Sydney Blue Sox dominated the 2024-2025 ABL regular season. From start to finish, the Blue Sox have been at the top of the ABL standings. The Blue Sox have given up the least amount of runs this season and have been able to put up enough runs to support their superstar pitching lineup. The best aspect of the Blue Sox this season has been their ability to protect home field. The Blue Sox have the best home record in the ABL, boasting an impressive 13-3 record at home. Because of this, the Blue Sox have not had to be exceptional in away games. The Blue Sox only have the third-best record away from home in the league, but because of their ability to protect their home field, they have sat at the top of the standings from start to finish.
Alex Wells: The ABL MVP
The ace pitcher for the Sydney Blue Sox, Alex Wells, has been the best player in the 2024-2025 ABL regular season. Wells, the Australian native, has started nine games for the Blue Sox, producing five wins with only one loss. Additionally, Wells has an extremely impressive 1.59 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP. In 52 innings of work, Wells has only given up nine earned runs. Additionally, the 27-year-old left-hander pitcher has pitched a complete game shutout this season. As the best player on the best team in the ABL, Wells deserves recognition as the 2024-2025 ABL MVP.
