Barcelona Baseball Cup Final Recap

Catalunya defeated the Algodoneros de Guasave in the Barcelona Baseball Cup final. Catalunya won the game 4-3 in the 10th inning.

The third meeting between the two teams came in a game to decide the champion. Catalunya and the Algodoneros de Guasave were tied at zero before a two-run seventh inning from Catalunya. Alejandro Saenz drove in two with a one-out double. The Algodoneros de Guasave trailed by one run heading into the ninth inning, but Jesús Castillo scored on a wild pitch to take the game into extras.

In the top of the 10th inning, Francisco Hernández gave the Algodoneros de Guasave the lead with an RBI single. However, a throwing error in the bottom of the frame allowed Catalunya to score two and win the game.

Catalunya used an opener in the game, with Marc Civit pitching five bulk innings. Civit did not allow a run and struck out one batter in his outing.

Catalunya finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, with their only loss coming to the Algodoneros de Guasave team on day one of the tournament.

Despite losing the final, the Algodoneros de Guasave became the first Mexican professional team to ever play in Europe.
