Baseball European Championship Cup 2024 Day 3 Recap

 Julian Guilarte - World Baseball Network  |    Jun 13th, 2024 1:53pm EDT

This is a four-team tournament, and every team plays each other twice. The top two teams will play for the championship at the end of group play.

Guggenberger Legionare (Germany) 6, Eagles Praha (Czech Republic) 0

Guggenbereger Legionare right fielder Joyce Terrel hit a two-run home run to open up the scoring against Eagles Praha in the fourth at Baseballovy areal Eagles Praha. This was all the offense needed, as the Legionare pitching staff was lights out.

Eagles Praha tried to piece it together using five pitchers, but two of them weren’t effective. Reliever Emmnaul Herrera surrendered the home run to Terrell. The game remained 2-0 until the ninth inning when Guggenberger Legionare put up four more runs.

Matyas Trcka came in to pitch the ninth and was wild. One run came in on a wild pitch, and two others scored from passed balls by catcher Lukas Derganz. Center fielder Devon Beaver Ramirez drove in the fourth run of the inning with an RBI single.

Kieran Lovegrove started the game for Guggenberger Legionare and pitched four shutout innings with seven strikeouts—three relievers combined with Lovegrove to preserve the shutout.

Guggenberger Legionare is 2-1, and Eagles Praha are 0-3 in the Baseball European Championship Cup.

Hedienhiem Heidekoepfe (Germany) 7 , Draci Brno (Czech Republic) 2

Hedienhiem Heidekopefe exploded for six runs in the seventh and put the game out of reach with two home runs from third baseman William Germaine and designated hitter Drew Janssen at Hellensteinergire Ballpark Heidenheim.

Germaine was 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, and Janssen was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

They were up 1-0 coming into the seventh, and reliever Tomas Urbanek took the loss, giving up all six runs in the seventh. Starting pitcher Capka Filip was the rough luck loser, pitching six innings of one-run ball.

Starting pitcher Drew Jansssen was the winning pitcher for Hedienhiem Heidekopeffe. He pitched seven scoreless innings, allowed one hit, and had nine strikeouts.

Darci Brno’s second baseman, Martin Cervinka, broke up the shutout with a two-run home run in the eighth. It wasn’t nearly enough in a 7-2 loss, and Draci Brno dropped to 2-1. Hedienhiem

Heidekoepfe is also 2-1.
