The Tigres de Chinandega of Nicaragua’s Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Superior Cmte. Germán Pomares Ordóñez, commonly known as the “Pomares Liga,” have announced their coaching staff and a portion of their roster for the 2025 Baseball Champions League (BCL) Americas.

This year’s BCL Americas will be held in Mexico City at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu from April 8-13.

Managing the Tigres will be Sandor Guido, who managed the Nicaragua national team at the 2023 World Baseball Classic and helms the Leones de Leon in the Liga Beisbol Profesional Nacional, Nicaragua’s winter league. He’ll be assisted by Adrian Moreno, Prospero Gonzalez, Oswaldo Mairena, Nery Colmanarez, Adolfo Matamoros, and Wuillan Juarez.

At the 2023 WBC, Guido’s Nicaragua team went winless in Group D at Miami’s loanDepot Park, going 0-4.

The club also announced four pitchers, two catchers, five infielders, and an outfielder to their BCL Americas roster.

Named to the pitching staff are Jesus Garrido, Walter Lopez, Luis Somarriba, and Axel Zapata, all of whom have pitched in the LPBN. Of the four, Zapata has posted the best numbers, with a 3.38 ERA in 69 1/3 innings, striking out 44 and walking 28 with a WHIP of 1.457. Last winter, Zapata made nine appearances for the Tigres in the LPBN, posting a 3.16 ERA in 31 1/3 innings with a 1.277 WHIP. Garrido, Lopez, and Somarriba each have career ERA’s over 5.00 and WHIPs of over 1.500 in the LPBN.

Miranda, a corner infielder and designated hitter, has produced solid numbers in the LPBN, getting 82 hits in 252 at-bats over four seasons with the Tren del Norte and Tigres de Chinandega for a .325 career average. He represented Nicaragua at the 2023 Caribbean Series in Caracas, Venezuela, going 3-for-15 in five games and played two seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, rising to High-A before being released.

Trujillo, 22, has a .321/.368/.564 batting line in 34 games over the past two winters with the Tigres, clubbing five homers and driving in 19 runs.

Lopez, 28, played six seasons in the Oakland A’s and Toronto Blue Jays organizations, never rising about High-A. His best season in Nicaragua came in 2023-24, when he batted .333/.375/.603 with a .978 OPS, eight homers and 26 RBIs for the Tigres. His numbers fell off this past year, and he batted just .177/.246/.258 in 32 games with the LPBN’s Indios del Boer.

Matamoros, 23, has seen limited action over three seasons in the LPBN, batting .219 in 49 career games, and Munguia has played for the Nicaragua U-18 and U-23 national teams.

Behind the plate, Ronald Rivera has four seasons of experience in the LPBN with the Tigres and Gigantes de Rivas, batting .324 in 47 games with the Tigres over the last two winters, while Diaz appeared in nine games with the Tigres in the 2023-24 LPBN season, going hitless in six at-bats with two walks.

Isaac Mondragon, the lone outfielder named to the team thus far, has gone 6-for-25 over three seasons in the LPBN with the Tigres and the Indios del Boer.
